The acting Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh has promoted posthumously Corporal Agatha Nana Nabin to the rank of Sergeant in recognition of her act of bravery, dedication and commitment to duty.
The Policewoman was killed while on duty on the Kumbugu road at Tamale on 30th July 2019.
On the day of her death, an oncoming saloon car was signaled to stop upon approaching the barrier but the occupants of the car who were said to be four in number, and dressed in military uniform, shot at the deceased, killing her instantly.
A police report said another officer who was on duty and decided to take cover following the shooting, had her weapon and that of the deceased, taken away by the robbers.
A third officer who was also at the barrier, shot at the robbers, but they managed to escape with the two weapons.
Six suspects arrested
Six persons are standing trial over the killing of the police officer.
Their last court appearance was last week where they were denied bail for the second time.
The case will be recalled on September 5th, 2019.
The Acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh, and the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, were among dignitaries that attended the burial service.
Hundreds of family and friends including police officers who turned up for the service at the Holy Cross Parish of the Roman Catholic Church in Tamale to bid the officer farewell could not hold back their tears at the solemn ceremony.
The Archbishop of Tamale, Philip Nameh who delivered the burial sermon said Agatha Nana Nabin could be best described as martyr.
