NPP polls: I’m coming for your seat – Triumphant Rashid warns NDC’s Ato Forson

Dr Rashid Kwesi Etuaful, who emerges the winner for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency has warned the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Cassiel Ato Forson, to start making preparations to exit parliament in 2020.

Dr Etuaful, an Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management Expert, polled 411 votes to defeat former parliamentary candidate and District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Rev. Ransford Kwesi Nyarko, who managed 232. Other contestants Elisha Debrah Odoom and Richard Hagan had 67 votes and a paltry 2 votes respectively.

After announcement of the results on Saturday, 28 September 2019, the former National President of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) stated that: “The real contest is against Ato Forson and not this one. This primary was no contest, Ato Forson’s contest is the bigger task and should be the focus”.

Dr Etuaful also stated that: “If it is God’s will, the NPP will take the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam seat in the 2020 polls”.

He further called for unity among the NPP contestants in supporters to turn their efforts towards winning the parliamentary polls scheduled to take place next year.

“We thank God for the success…It is not a win for Rashid but a win for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam. My appeal to Ransford’s supporters, Richard Hagan’s supporters and Elisha’s supporters is that we are all one. I want everyone to take a rest for about a week or two and then I will go to meet all my colleagues in Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam who contested, for unity talks to forge ahead. Subsequently, we will meet the media and all the plans we have to unseat NDC’s Ato Forson will be made known”.

JetMedia Central Regional Correspondent, Siisi Bentil, reported that there was a heavy presence of Katangees at the poll venue who sang and cheered Dr Etuaful, an alumnus of the University Hall (Katanga) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He also reported that at least 10 Hyundai i10 vehicles which had been branded with images of Mr Odoom, ostensibly to be distributed to delegates, were taken back to Tema after Mr Odoom lost.
