Five foreign nationals were giving hot chase by a group of youth in Ajumako–Kokoben in the Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam district of the central region last Monday.
The youth, numbering about 900 invaded a house at Kawoanopaado, a suburb of the town where the foreigners, believed to be Togolese were staying, forcing them to leave.
Eye witness says the foreigners refused to leave the house when two young men calmly asked them to do so because according to them, they had come to the town to work as farm labourers.
He said the young men reported the matter to the Assembly Members of the town, who asked them to leave for fear of carrying the Coronavirus pandemic but the Foreigners refused. The source continued that the actions of the Foreigners compelled the two leaders to call their subjects who went to the scene with sticks, stones, matches and other weapons to throw them out of the town around 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, Hon.Bernard Odua Sampson, Assembly Member for Kawoanopaado electoral area where the incident happened has warned of possible arrest of any one who will accept foreign nationals at this time of COVID-19 outbreak.
In a related development, the Assembly Member for Asempanaye/Salem electoral area, also a suburb of the town, Hon.Francis Nkoom Appiah has called on the youths to be vigilant and report any stranger to the authorities to ensure the safety of the town.
